Yauri Rigata: Organisers to present live hippos to guests

The 2025 Yauri Rigata and Cultural festival will witness presentation of multiple hippopotamus to invited guests.

Chairman of the organising committee and Secretary to the Kebbi State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, told newsmen in Birnin Kebbi that a UNESCO team is coming to witness the festival and visit heritage sites, stressing that they would also assist  Yauri Emirate in the preservation of the historical sites

Bala-Tafida said the event billed for between February 13 and 15 would attract investments and showcase new innovations in Yauri Emirate.

He said the Rigatta Committee had engaged organisations and foreign embassies to attract investment, recognising Yauri’s potential as a mining hub.

“During our recent visit to China with Governor Nasir Idris, a Chinese investor expressed interest in bringing a $200 million investment to Yauri.

“Several sponsors are prepared to fulfil their corporate social responsibilities within the Yauri emirate. This is the fourth edition of the Rigatta under the Emir of Yauri, Prof. Muhammadu Zayyanu-Abdullahi.

“In recognition of his commitment to the Rigatta, the Emir has conferred the traditional title of `Gamjin Yauri’ on Gov. Idris, who remains dedicated to ensuring the festival’s continued success.”

He explained that the 2025 edition would feature an agricultural fair, cultural performances and water displays, with new innovations designed to elevate the festival’s national and global appeal.

Bala-Tafida expressed gratitude to the government and people of the state for their unwavering support.

On the significance of the hippopotamus gift to the governor by the Emir of Yauri during the 2024 Rigatta, he said the animal is a symbol of strength and unity in Yauri Emirate.

“Our identity is tied to hippo. What you cherish most is what you give to those you hold dear, which is why the emir presented the animal to our esteemed governor.”
