The Delta State Police Command has confirmed that a suspected internet fraudster, otherwise known as a ‘Yahoo boy’, reportedly killed his girlfriend in the Edjeba community in the Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Speculations were rife that the suspect allegedly chopped off the victim’s head in a suspicious manner, but the police on Thursday debunked the rumour, saying she was not beheaded as widely claimed.

Although details of the incident, which was reported in the early hours of Monday, were still sketchy, local sources from the area disclosed that the suspect used a knife to cut off the neck of his girlfriend.

The source said that the incident occurred at the suspect’s apartment at Ajidi Street, Edjeba.

Sources said that the landlord of the compound raised the alarm and called the police when he heard a loud shout from the suspect’s apartment.

“The police promptly stormed the area, searched the apartment and found the headless body of the deceased just as they arrested the suspect, who is currently cooling off his heels in custody.”

“The police also deposited the remains of the deceased in a morgue pending when the investigation is concluded.”

“Residents of the area said they saw the girl yesterday when she went to the market to purchase food items to cook for her boyfriend; unknown to her, he would kill her this morning.”

“They (residents) also said they used to see the two lovebirds in the suspect’s White Lexus Jeep,” one source said.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the report in a WhatsApp message sent.

Edafe said, “Murder confirmed, but she wasn’t beheaded.”
