As Alhaja Wosilat Okoya-Seriki turns 65, her birthday offers an opportunity to reflect on a life defined less by the glamour of her social circle and more by the values, relationships and quiet influence she has built over the decades.

Born on August 17, 1961, into the prominent Okoya family, Wosilat is the younger sister of renowned industrialist and philanthropist, Alhaji Rasak Akanni Okoya.

Yet, despite coming from one of Nigeria’s most recognisable business families, she has carved out an identity of her own, earning the respect and affection of those who have encountered her.

Her story is one of understated influence. She is not known for seeking the limelight or making herself the centre of attention. Instead, she has maintained a relatively private lifestyle, placing family, friendship and personal relationships at the heart of her world.

Those close to her describe her as warm, generous and deeply loyal. These qualities, they say, have helped her sustain friendships across generations and made her a respected presence within Nigeria’s influential social and business circles.

Her connection to the business and political establishment also extends through her late husband, Chief Ademola Rasaq Seriki, Otun Aare of Lagos. The diplomat and former Nigerian Ambassador to Spain also served as Permanent Representative to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation before his death in December 2022.

When her husband accepted the responsibility of representing Nigeria abroad, Wosilat stood firmly by him. She relocated to Madrid during his diplomatic posting, providing the stability of family life while he carried out his national assignment. She was also with him until his final moments and has continued to honour his memory by organising annual prayers for the repose of his soul.

Beyond her famous family connections, however, her most important investment has arguably been in her family.

A mother of three accomplished daughters and grandmother to a growing generation, she has devoted considerable attention to raising her children with strong values, discipline and a respect for hard work. Her children’s achievements remain a source of pride to her and those around her.

At 65, Wosilat also remains a striking figure. Known for her elegance and refined fashion sense, she frequently attracts attention with her carefully coordinated outfits and graceful appearance. Admirers often remark that she carries her age with remarkable poise and vitality.

But beneath the fashion and social engagements is a woman whose greatest strength lies in her quiet consistency.

Her 65th birthday, therefore, represents more than a personal milestone. It is a celebration of relationships nurtured, family responsibilities fulfilled and a reputation built over time through character and loyalty.

As family, friends and admirers gather to celebrate her, the tributes are likely to converge around a common theme: Wosilat Okoya-Seriki has built a life in which influence does not require noise, prominence does not demand publicity, and true wealth is measured in family, friendship, dignity and the positive impact made on others.
