Belgium winger and Manchester City star, Jérémy Doku, has rejoined the national team’s training camp in Seattle after briefly leaving the squad to be present for the birth of his first child.
The 24-year-old returned to the United States on Wednesday following a short stay in London with his family after the arrival of his son, Praise. His return was confirmed by the Belgian Football Federation through a video shared on its official channels.
Doku had been absent from Belgium’s goalless draw against Iran in their second Group G fixture after suffering a respiratory illness. Following treatment and medical evaluation, the winger was cleared by team doctors to travel home for the birth of his child.
Belgium team doctor, Brahim Hacene, said Doku completed the trip without complications and remained under medical supervision during his travels.
“Everything went perfectly, and the mother, father and baby are all doing wonderfully,” Hacene said.

The winger’s return comes at a crucial stage of the tournament, with Belgium facing a must-win Group G clash against New Zealand on Saturday.
The Red Devils have drawn their opening two matches and need victory to keep their hopes of advancing to the Round of 32 alive.
Doku’s temporary departure also generated debate in France after television presenter France Pierron questioned his decision to leave the World Cup camp for the birth of his child.
The remarks sparked criticism from football fans and commentators, prompting French sports newspaper L’Équipe to apologise and distance itself from the comments.
Belgium will now hope the return of one of their most dangerous attacking players provides the spark needed as they prepare for a decisive encounter that could determine their World Cup future.
