First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, in commemoration of World Cancer Day, has stated that no one should face the challenges of cancer alone.

World Cancer Day is an international day dedicated to raising awareness about cancer and encouraging prevention, detection, and treatment.

The day is set aside to educate people about the importance of early detection, healthy lifestyles, and supportive care for cancer patients.

It also highlights the need for funding and research to better understand and combat cancer.

The First Lady, in a statement she personally signed, noted that this year’s World Cancer Day presented an important opportunity to raise awareness and elaborate further the message of prevention, early detection, and treatment of cancer.

According to her, the theme for this year, “Closing the Care Gap,” speaks to the fact that “we are to deepen our efforts in putting in place necessary infrastructure to address these health challenges towards better care for cancer patients and survivors.

“No one should have to face the challenges of cancer alone. Let us continue to show empathy, care, love, and support for cancer patients and survivors, even as we create more awareness and advocacy for better service delivery. Also, we are to celebrate those who are cancer free.”
