In a message marking World Against Child Labour Day 2025, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has made a heartfelt call to action to eradicate child labour across the nation.
Speaking under the theme, “Let’s Speed Up Efforts! End Child Labour!”, the First Lady stressed the urgent need to protect millions of Nigerian children whose childhoods and futures are being stolen by the harsh realities of child labour.
“Today, we raise our voices for millions of children whose dreams are stolen by the harsh reality of child labour,” she said. “It is unacceptable that children are still forced to work instead of going to school, pursuing their dreams, and learning how to grow into productive members of society.”
Mrs. Tinubu urged all stakeholders—government, communities, and families—to intensify efforts to eliminate child labour in all its forms. She highlighted the importance of strengthening laws, supporting vulnerable families, and investing in quality education as critical steps toward this goal.
“Let us speed up efforts to end child labour in all ramifications by strengthening our laws, supporting families, and investing in quality education for every child,” she stated. “I urge us to work towards building a country where every child is free to thrive, dream, and reach their God-given potential.”
Concluding her message, the First Lady invoked a blessing for Nigeria’s children: “God bless our precious children!”
World Against Child Labour Day, observed annually on June 12, serves as a global reminder of the ongoing fight to protect children from exploitation and ensure their right to education and a safe childhood.
