The Federal Government has expressed displeasure over the poor representation of Nigerian women in the 2019 general election.

Government expressed worry that such development might affect their chances of securing better political appointments in the incoming administration.

Director General, National Centre for Women Development (NCWD), Mary Ekpere- Eta, told journalists, in Abuja, yesterday, that the Centre is yet to ascertain the reason for the abysmal representation of women in elective political positions. She challenged women to avail themselves politically, to strengthen the drive towards gender equality and sustainable national development.

She said that as a gender research, training and documentation centre, “our doors are open to partner interested persons and organisations to build the capacity of women, politically and otherwise.

Ekpere-Eta called on the government at all levels and political party lines to give women more leadership opportunities to enable them contribute their quota to the nation building.
