Women Affairs Minister Demands Probe into Oluwawemimo’s Death, Visits Family

As the investigation continues on the death of Oluwafumilayo Oluwawemimo, who passed away in May following several alleged incidents of domestic violence, Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye has vowed to remain vigilant and to work tirelessly to ensure that justice is served.

She has also pledged to use her position as the Minister to advocate for stronger measures to prevent and address domestic violence in Nigeria.

In a swift response to the tragic death, Kennedy-Ohanenye has taken immediate action to ensure a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young mother’s passing.

Upon learning of this heartbreaking incident, she said: “I was deeply saddened to hear about the untimely death of Mrs. Oluwawemimo. “As the Minister of Women Affairs, I am committed to ensuring that justice is served and that no woman in Nigeria has to endure such a tragic fate.”

According to a statement issued by Media Aide to Minister of Women Affairs, Musa Abdulrahaman, the minister paid a condolence visit to the family, offering prayers for the departed and the grieving loved ones.

Kennedy-Ohanenye assured them of her unwavering commitment to thoroughly investigating the circumstances surrounding Mrs. Oluwawemimo’s death.

Kennedy-Ohanenye from the condolence visit proceeded to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, where she met with the Commissioner of Police for the FCT. CP Ben Igweh.

He expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and assured them that a comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the cause of Mrs. Oluwawemimo’s death.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss, and we are committed to conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the truth. An experienced pathologist will be engaged to perform an autopsy, which will assist us in our efforts to seek justice for the deceased”, Igweh said.

The Director-General of the Maryam Babangida Women Centre, Asaebe Bashir, commended the Minister of Women Affairs and the Commissioner of Police for their swift and dedicated response to this case.

 

“It is heartening to see the Minister of Women Affairs and the Police Command working together to ensure that the circumstances surrounding Mrs. Oluwawemimo’s death are thoroughly investigated,” said Bashir.

 

“This sends a strong message that the Nigerian government is committed to protecting the rights and safety of women in our country”, she said.
