Six dead, 15 injured as suicide bomber attacks Borno

No fewer than six persons are feared dead and many more were injured in a bomb attack in Tashan Mararaba community in Gwoza, Borno State.

It was learnt that a lone female suicide bomber detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), causing a deafening explosion that sent shockwaves across town.

A security analyst, Zagazola Makama, said the bomber detonated the IED at a busy motor park known as Marrarraban Gwoza.

Some guests were said to be returning from a wedding celebration when the attack occurred, creating panic.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted an eyewitness, Muhammed Kasim as stating that the attack happened around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

“We heard a very loud sound of explosives, accompanied by dust; then we saw bodies on the ground,” Kasim said.

It was learnt that emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident to attend to victims and transport the injured to nearby hospitals in Gwoza.

The Borno State Commissioner of Police (CP), Yusuf Lawal, confirmed the attack. He said it was carried out by a female suicide bomber.

The police commissioner said he was informed by the Divisional Police Officer in Gwoza, that at least six people were killed with 15 others evacuated to the hospital.
