A Nigerian woman of Igbo extraction who resides in the United Kingdom, Lady Favour Nzeanochie-Obisidoro, has cried to President Bola Tinubu to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on compassionate grounds.

Nzenochie-Obisidoro said by granting Kanu release, the President would not only have brought peace to a family but also show the world that Nigeria values justice tempered with compassion and law balanced with humanity.

“You will bring healing where there has been pain, unity where there has been division.”

Nzenochie-Obisidoro said as a mother, she knows what Mrs Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, the wife of Kanu would be passing through all these years her husband has been behind bars, adding that her tears and prayer for her husband’s freedom have touched so many of them.

“Mr. President, let this administration be remembered as one that dried the tears of women, restored children to their fathers and brought hope back to families. As women, as daughters of Nigeria, we say, let mercy prevail, let love lead. Let Namdi Kanu come home.”

Appealing further, the woman said: “Mr president, history remembers leaders not only for the policies they make but for the mercy they showed. Nelson Mandela chose reconciliation over revenge and today the world calls him great. You have the power to write such a chapter for Nigeria.”

She reminded President Tinubu of what the Bible said that, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy,” adding that, “Mercy is not weakness; mercy is strength. When a  leader shows mercy, God Himself shows mercy to that leader and to the nation he governs,” she added.
