The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old housewife, Hauwa’u Haruna, for alleged culpable homicide following a domestic incident that claimed the life of her co-wife at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate, Bauchi.
The command’s spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib disclosed this in a Monday statement on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
According to the police, at about 4:05pm on Sunday, September 27, the C-Division, Bauchi, received credible information about a domestic incident between two co-wives residing in the same household belonging to their husband.
The statement reads, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the second wife, one Hauwa’u Haruna, 33 years old, allegedly acting under hallucinations, armed herself with a pestle and struck the first wife, one Jamila Adamu, 43 years old, on the forehead. Consequently, the victim fell unconscious.
“Upon receipt of the report, detectives attached to C-Division immediately mobilised to the scene. The scene was documented, and the victim was rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where she was certified dead by a medical doctor.
“Her corpse has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.”
Meanwhile, the suspect has been arrested, and the pestle used in the commission of the offence has been recovered as exhibit, the police spokesman further disclosed.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Sani-Omolori, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation and prosecution.
The CP condoled with the bereaved family and cautioned the public against domestic violence, while advising families to seek timely medical and psycho-social support for members exhibiting mental health challenges.
