Woman arraigned for unlawful possession of 4.7kg of cannabis sativa in Osun

A woman, Okunola Madinat, was on Thursday arraigned before a Federal High Court, Osogbo, Osun State, for alleged possession of 4.7kg of cannabis sativa.

The prosecutor, Olufemi Ijimakin, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged crime along Gbongan-Ibadan expressway, on December 14, 2023.

The charge sheet reads in part: “That you Okunola Madinat ‘f’ adult, without lawful knowingly had in your possession 4.7kg of cannabis sativa, a narcotic drug similar to cocaine, LSD, heroin, and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under section 19 of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the one count of unlawful possession of cannabis sativa.

Her counsel, Emma Idehen, urged the court to grant her bail in the most liberal term.

Justice Mashkur Salisu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to February 15, for trial.
