Judge slams counsel to suspected terror leader Al-Barnawi, others, for absence in court

A 28-year-old woman, Chidinma Simeon, was on Friday arraigned before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly biting off her neighbour’s lip.

The defendant, whose address was not given, is being charged with assault, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at about 7.30p.m on September 10 at Tozunkanmeh Ajara-Ajamathen, Badagry, Lagos State.

Ekpo said that the defendant unlawfully caused grievous harm on the complainant, Anu-Oluwapo Sule, by biting off her lip and disfiguring her permanently.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 245 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in the like sum.

He said that one of the sureties must be a community leader and should deposit the sum of N100,000 in the account of the court’s Chief Registrar.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Layeni adjourned the case until October 10, for mention.
