From Aniekan Aniekan, Calabar
The Chairman of the National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT University of Calabar Chapter says it’s like a sin to be a university worker.
Comrade Alex Oko, the branch chairman of the association disclosed this in an interview in Calabar.
Comrade Oko said his association has decided to join the one week industrial action because of the injustice meted out to them by the federal government.
In his words, “The issue of renegotiation and earned allowances is our major demand and it is as of it is an offence or a sin to be a university worker.
“Yes, we will definitely join the strike. Our demand is the injustice that is assumed to be meted out not only in terms of withheld salaries but all other issues that are pending “, he said.
The industrial action scheduled to start on Monday 18 March 2024 was declared by the leadership of both the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU).
The seven-day industrial action is in fulfilment of the earlier threat and ultimatum issued to the Nigerian government by the unions over the unpaid withheld salaries of their members.
