Tragedy struck Okubuchi community in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State following a downpour that came with windstorm.
The rain, which started at about 6pm was accompanied by whirlwind and later windstorm on Monday, pulled down roof tops and displaced over 500 persons within the community.
Property worth millions of naira were destroyed just as displaced persons are now taking refuge in the neighbouring communities.
A witness and community leader, Anthony Ewah-Obi, said the windstorm destroyed houses and a good number of economic trees, including ogbono stems, banana trees and palm tress which are sources of revenue to the people.
Lawmaker representing Boki 2 state constituency in the House of Assembly, Hilary Bisong, appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to come to the aid of the the victims with relief materials as a way of providing succour to victims.
