Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has called for consistency in leadership while commenting on changes in Nigeria’s petroleum industry, including the commercialisation of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and domestic fuel production.
Wike made the remarks while addressing issues surrounding the country’s petroleum sector, insisting that leaders should maintain consistent positions when communicating with Nigerians.
According to him, leadership requires fairness and consistency rather than making contradictory statements at different times.
“We should be able to be consistent in what we say to our people. We should have what leadership is all about,” he said.
“Leadership is not you come in and say one thing in the morning, in the afternoon you say a different thing, in the night you are talking of a different thing, that is not leadership.”
The FCT minister also referred to the Petroleum Industry Act, stating that the NNPC had been commercialised and was no longer operating under its former structure as the country’s sole importer or producer of fuel.
Wike further mentioned the Dangote refinery while discussing fuel production, although the available transcript does not clearly capture his complete argument on the issue.
He also reaffirmed his position on fossil fuels, saying he continued to believe in their use.
“I still believe in the movement of fossil fuel,” he said.
The minister’s comments highlighted his call for consistency in public discourse and his reference to changes in Nigeria’s petroleum industry.
