Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has approved the cancellation of 485 fraudulent land applications, nullifying documents that failed authenticity verification and removing them from the regularisation database.
The action appears in a public notice issued Monday by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), labeled Batch I. It follows reviews by the Department of Land Administration and Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS), which identified the titles as fake. The notice targets applicants who submitted Area Council land documents for validation.
Invalidated titles span multiple councils and locations: Ushafa Village Expansion Scheme, Ushafa Extension, and Dawaki Extension 1 in Bwari Area Council; Kurudu-Jikwoyi Relocation, Kurudu Commercial, Karu Village Extension, Nyanya Phase IV Extension, Jikwoyi Residential, Sabon Lugbe, and Lugbe I Extension in Abuja Municipal Area Council; and Kuchiyako One layout in Kuje Area Council. Affected parties include the Redeemed Christian Church of God and the Ministry of Justice Staff Multi-purpose Cooperative Society.
Nigerian law places all FCT land under Federal Government control, requiring titles like Certificates of Occupancy to process through the FCT Minister’s office and AGIS formalization. Area Councils cannot issue valid titles.
These cancellations advance FCTA land administration reforms addressing forged documents, double allocations, and irregular grants. The effort has progressed for months.
Recall last year, FCTA revealed that of 261,914 Area Council documents submitted from 2006 to 2023, only 8,287—or 3.2%—had been screened, leaving 253,627 pending at 96.8%. FCDA noted slow progress due to verification challenges.
