Organisers of the Most Beautiful Girl Mushin Odi-Olowo (MBGMOD), has expressed optimism that the initiative would help groom young girls to assume leadership positions and perform effectively in a competitive society. The spokesperson for MBGMOD, Atileke Ajayi, stated this while addressing the press ahead of the maiden project in Lagos.
She said the idea behind the pageant project was to offer young girls an opportunity to engage, learn about culture, and showcase the community values, arts, crafts, innovation and intellectual capacity to the world.
Ajayi said the agenda was an initiative to support women and also offer solutions to the challenges they face, including domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, sexual abuse, and low political inclusion as well as participation.
“By addressing these issues, we will reduce the oppression against our women and children in the years to come. We will also be able to build a coalition of young women that will grow into adulthood and emerge as leaders that people can reckon with in a competitive society,” she said.
Besides, Ajayi said that the organisers are working towards establishing a mentorship programme that encourages young women to take up leadership roles and understand the technology of funding their business ideas.
According to her, the project would boost tourism and further expose participants to cultures and traditions of Mushin.
“Participation is free as long as you are from Mushin area of Lagos State and within the age range of 18 to 35 years. The winner will go home with N1 million cash prize, an official car, one year education scholarship, a N500,000 wardrobe allowance, one year community project fully funded, and many other benefits,” she said.
