The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it has evolved the ability to constantly adapt to new challenges in order to leverage emerging opportunities.

“The Nigeria Customs Service operates in an ever-involving landscape of international trade and our strategic planning must be agile and responsive to these changes,” the NCS Comptroller, Katsina Area Command, Mohammed Umar, said on Tuesday.

He spoke at a seminar in Katsina organised by the Institute of Strategic Management Nigeria, Chartered, in collaboration with the NCS.

According to Umar, “for the NCS, our mission is to facilitate legitimate trade, protect our borders and generate robust revenue for the government.

“The policy thrust of consolidation, collaboration and innovative solutions is not merely a collection of words, it represents the very essence of our mission in the Nigeria Customs Service.

“In the first 100 days of this administration, we embarked on a comprehensive overhaul of the Nigeria Customs Customs Service, guided by our policy thrust.

“We recognised that to effect real change, we needed to incrementally challenge the status quo and instigate a transformation that was both dynamic and results oriented.

“Regular reviews of our performance against set targets are integral to achieving sustainable success.”

The theme of the seminar was, “Strategic management, key to sustainable and successful performance.”

In his address, the Institute’s Registrar, Obitunde Obiyemi, said that, “we aim to empower our members and partners to be at the forefront of strategic thinking and practice. “Through initiatives such as this seminar, we foster a community of professionals who not only adapt to change but drive change.”

“The Institute of Strategic Management Nigeria is committed to providing a platform for learning, networking and collaboration.”
