While celebrity weddings dominate headlines and Instagram feeds, Calvin and Sheree Lanihun-Anderson have chosen charity by launching the Lanihun-Anderson Foundation to empower people and alleviate poverty in Nigeria over a big wedding.
Speaking with newsmen, the couple said there is no need to organise a flamboyant wedding when millions suffer and have nothing.
The couple abandoned the big wedding and wrote a different story.
“We skipped the big wedding and built a charity. It was the best decision we ever made.
“Instead of throwing a multi-million-naira celebration, we launched the Lanihun-Anderson Foundation, focused on empowerment, poverty alleviation, and financial literacy to ensure a brighter and more prosperous future for all,” Sheree said.
“We prayed about it, and God made it clear. Our love was meant to bless others,” Calvin said.
In a country where over 70% of the population lives below the poverty line, their decision is not just admirable, it’s essential.
“Giving in Nigeria is not just charity, it’s survival support. We knew we had to be part of the solution,” the couple added.
The foundation works in tandem with their investment company, JB5 Investments, led in Nigeria by Sheree’s father, Tunji Lanihun, to ensure the family’s efforts are coordinated and impactful.
“We believe in generational giving. We give because we’ve been blessed,” Tunji said.
