Factional National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has declared that the party has zero tolerance for political godfatherism, compromises and backroom deals.
To him, power must belong solely to the Nigerian people.
Abure, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategic Communication, Amb. AJU Elumelu-James, said the party was established to dismantle Nigeria’s long-standing culture of recycled leadership and criminal political patronage.
According to him, the party is founded on ideology, integrity, and popular participation, not on the influence of moneybags or political puppeteers.
He stressed that godfatherism remains one of Nigeria’s greatest obstacles to good governance, noting that it often sacrifices competence and character for loyalty and control.

“The Labour Party has completely and unapologetically rejected this system, rather, the Party prioritises merit over money and character over connections.”
Abure pointed to the 2023 general elections as evidence of the party’s people-centred philosophy, saying its candidates disrupted the traditional political order and demonstrated that ordinary Nigerians could emerge as leaders through the ballot box.
He recalled that during the 2023 elections, candidates described as an okada rider and a bus conductor were elected into the House of Representatives, describing the outcome as a clear sign of democratic empowerment rather than chance.
The party, he said, represented artisans, workers, youths, market women, farmers and other marginalised groups who are determined to reclaim political power and demand accountable governance.
Abure, therefore, called on Nigerians who are dissatisfied with the status quo to join the Party, describing it not just as a political platform but as a national movement aimed at making Nigeria work for all.
