From Timothy Olanrewaju, Maiduguri
Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum has given reasons he is seeking a second mandate as governor of the state in next year’s poll.
He stated this while addressing supporters of All Progressives Congress (APC) at the flag off of his governorship campaigns in Maiduguri, yesterday.
He said the state was still confronted with unemployment, inadequate health personnel and out-of-school children, despite widespread acknowledgment of his performance.
“Just two weeks ago, i was in Bosso, Niger to see our people who are still taking refuge in camps there. Despite building many schools, we still have millions of out-of-school children, our aged ones have not got enough access to health care despite building many hospitals and health centres.”
The governor said though he did not fail in the first mandate given to him, the passion to address these problems, have made him to seek a second mandate from the people.
He asked the party and people to be united, noting that the state cannot afford to create enmity for political opportunity.
Zulum said he was privileged to serve the state in the last three and half year.
He said his greatest joy was the fact that Borno was gradually regaining peace and lauded the people of the state for their spiritual commitment to ending Boko Haram and ISWAP.
He recounted his impact in education, infrastructure, agriculture, health, job creations, supports for displaced persons and restoration of civil authority to hitherto affected local governments.
“We did not fail Borno. We have delivered, but there are still more things to be done, and this is why I seek your votes for another term,” he said.
Former governor, Ali Sheriff said he will lead campaigns for Zulum and other APC candidates in all the 27 local governments.
