The national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has blessed the defection of some of his loyalists to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said the decision was informed by the experiences of his supporters, some of whom had been under huge pressure and tension since the defection saga erupted.

Kwankwaso announced his new position in a short video circulated on Tuesday via his Facebook page and shared by his spokesperson, Saifullahi Hassan.

In the video, he said the political atmosphere in the state had become tense following the proposed defection of the governor, adding that the situation had also created serious emotional and psychological trauma for many of his grassroots loyalists, including chairmen, councillors and other appointees of the government.

“Many chairmen called me, some councillors, and others holding political offices, who could speak to me directly explained the situation they were facing. Some of them could not sleep, some were deeply confused, and some even had to be placed on drips in hospitals,” Kwankwaso claimed.

The former governor of the state said that, in the light of this development and after consulting widely, he decided to relieve these officers of further hardship, saying that being rigid at this time could worsen their suffering.

“We agreed that all chairmen, councillors, supervisory councillors and anyone asked to sign the document should go ahead and sign. We have no problem with that.

“2027 is not yet here. We pray that Allah spares our lives to reach that time. Our supporters are everywhere; we know them and they know themselves,” he concluded.
