A student of Delta State University of Science and Technology, now Southern Delta University, Ozoro, Delta State has explained why he attempted to kill his female friend inside the school auditorium.
Prince had stabbed the female friend, Peace, two times in her neck and in the chest, thinking that she had died and started demanding for ransom from the lady’s father.
Prince, who is presently undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Asaba, confessed that he thought the lady would have died.
The suspect, who was singing like Canary, said: “I invited Peace, my female friend, though not a lover. We were just friends. I had the intention of killing her, not for any other purpose, but to kill her and collect ransom from her parents.
“ When she promised to honour my invitation in the school auditorium that fateful night, I armed myself with a kitchen knife in preparation to kill her. When she came, I raised a topic about how the school authority had announced that they would be relocating some departments to another town, Ole, and she was interested in the discussion. So, I used that opportunity to attack her.
“I stabbed her in the neck and chest. So thinking that she had died, I used her phone to contact her father that she had been kidnapped and we needed N2 million ransom.
“I told her father to send the sum of N200,000 as part payment of the ransom. It was while we were still negotiating the random that the school authority sent for me, arrested me and handed me over to the police.
“I am still surprised that Peace survived the attack. I stabbed her many times for her to die but she survived the attack.
“I have told you the truth. I didn’t have any other motive than to kill her and use her phone to contact her family members for ransom. My motive is not to use her for rituals. It was to collect ransom from her parents.”
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, SP Bright Edafe, said: “It is sad that some of our boys due to lack of home training are cutting short the lives of innocent girls. She is a 100-level student of the newly named Southern Delta University.”
He warned students, especially the female ones, to be wary of who they have appointments with, especially in lonely or secluded areas.
