Why ABU reviewed postgraduate guidelines -VC

The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Kabiru Bala, explained why the institution reviewed its postgraduate studies guidelines, saying the review was to facilitate easy graduation of students.

Speaking at the matriculation ceremony for the newly admitted postgraduate students for the 2023/2024 academic session, the Vice-Chancellor said that a series of reforms in the postgraduate programmes were carried out to improve postgraduate studies.

Prof. Bala implored the new postgraduate students to read the rules and regulations of the postgraduate school in order to understand and abide by them.

The Vice-Chancellor also advised them to utilize the facilities provided to them and to shun all social vices, such as drug abuse, cultism, examination malpractice and any unapproved activity within the campuses.

In his remark, the Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Mohammed Nasir Shu’aibu, said that a total of 5,812 students were admitted, out of which 3,587 had successfully completed their registration for the 2023/2024 academic session.

Prof. Nasir enjoined the students to be of good behaviour as well as be good ambassadors of the University.

He also said that every admitted student into ABU must go through the rites of matriculation and oath taking to signify their formal admission into the University, which “requires you to be diligent in the pursuit of your studies, to seek knowledge and to promote the general good of the University”.

“The Senate of the University has approved regulations governing postgraduate studies in the University and provided guidelines to ensure the completion of postgraduate programmes of the university within record time as well as increase the quality of research in line with the ABU research policy and national development aspirations”, he said.

President, Postgraduate Representative Council, Comrade Ahmad Dawuda, assured his fellow students of the Council’s commitment towards its members as well as maintain peace and harmony within the campuses.

The matriculation oath was administered by the ABU Registrar, Malam Rabiu Ismaila.
