Zamfara State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with World health organization (WHO) and other health partners, organized an Emergency Preparedness and Response Planning Meeting on infectious diseases.
The meeting aimed at developing a Multi Hazard Incident Action Plan to tackle public health emergencies, including infectious diseases such as Ebola.
The meeting was held at the Polio Emergency Operations Centre in Gusau and was led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Rilwanu Musa Zurmi.
Speaking during the meeting, the Permanent Secretary stressed the importance of preparedness and effective coordination among stakeholders to strengthen the state’s capacity to prevent and respond to disease outbreaks and other health emergencies.
He explained that the Multi Hazard Incident Action Plan would provide a comprehensive framework for addressing various public health threats like Cholera, Ebola and ensuring a timely and coordinated response whenever emergencies occur.
In his remark, the Director Public Health, Dr Yusuf Abubakar Haske, who led the technical session emphasized the status of the public health emergency operation centre is the ALER MODE of Operation currently especially on cholera cases as all the 17 LGAs DSNOs have presented their IDRS status.
A statement by thr ministry’s spokesperson, Suleiman Isah, said
the initiative was expected to enhance Zamfara State’s readiness to manage potential outbreaks and protect the health and wellbeing of its citizens.
Participants at the meeting included Program Manager Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, Dr Abubakar Nasir Galadima, representatives of development partners, health experts, and government officials who discussed strategies for improving emergency preparedness, disease surveillance, and rapid response mechanisms across the state.
