When Mayor of Royal Greenwich, Cllr. Mbang says ‘Thank You’ as tenure ends

 

 

 

It was indeed a great night with music, speeches and enough victuals at the ‘Thank You’ sendoff party of Councillor Dr. Dominic Mbang, His Worshipful, Mayor of Royal Greenwich (2023 – 2024).

 

Cllr. Mbang is originally from Ghana and is the first Ghanaian elected Councillor/ Mayor in Royal Greenwich and the second African elected Mayor since 1965 in Royal Greenwich.

 

Cllr. Dominic was trained and  worked as a State Registered Nurse in Ghana, trained and worked as a police officer and also taught as a teacher before coming to  the United Kingdom.

 

In the UK, Mbang has worked with the NHS for 26 years as a specialist renal nurse and complex discharge nurse specialist. He has also represented the Royal College of Nursing for over 20 years in Guy’s and St. Thomas Hospital.

 

He has also been actively involved in local politics and was elected Councilor 7 years ago, currently on his second term. He was elected Deputy Mayor in May 2022 and a mayor for Royal Greenwich 2023 to 2024.

 

It was amazing the achievements Cllr. Mbang  has done for the NHS, his Community, Royal Greenwich, UK, Africa and globally.

 

The testimonies from his fellow councillors, Community representatives were inspiring.

 

Dominic has reached out to over a million people, officiated over 1500 residents who came for their naturalization certificates in the town hall chambers.

 

He also did over 700 engagements as Mayor and worked through the whole year without taking annual leave.

 

In his speech, he has continuously encouraged communities, organisations and the importance of social interactions and reminding residents to look after themselves and helping others.

 

A recipient of over 20 awards from different organisations including Honourary Doctorate for Politics and Human Letters, Dominic has involved in numerous charity works in the UK and in Africa.

 

In Ghana, he has built schools, churches, community centres dug boreholes for needy communities and runs a charity school and community activities in Ghana with his wife.

 

He chairs Ghana Greenwich Association and equally chairs one of the largest branches of National Democratic Congress ( NDC) in  South London.

 

At the well-attended event were many dignitaries including international filmmaker and Queen of Red Carpets, HRM, Florence Okonkwo who eulogized his sterling qualities.

 

She said: “I am proud to call him a friend and I have nominated him severally for various community and leadership awards.”
