Recently, the Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Lasbat Mojisola Meranda was honoured by two different groups.

The first event, held at Eko Club, Surulere, Lagos, was organised by the Lagos Island Childhood Gist Initiative (LICGI),a Lagos- based grassroots organisation for people of like minds.

It was at the 10th Annual Award/Gala Night of the organisation, where  dignitaries from across the state gathered to celebrate the woman who has distinguished herself as a role model in public service.

The Lagos Island Childhood Gist Initiative was established ten years ago to serve a platform that would help in preserving  the heritage of the people, strengthen community bonds, and also empower the young people within Lagos Island.

Speaking at the event, LICGI chairperson, Chief Mudirakat Subuola Ajibona said the 10th anniversary of the organisation was a pleasant reminder of how a dream can become a reality.

Hon Ajibona explained how the organisation began gradually ten years ago.

She highlighted the success stories of LICGI, and how the organisation has since become a household name, transforming lives of people from different backgrounds.

“As I stand before you today, I feel honoured that the LICGI has transited into a formidable organisation.

“In the last one decade, we have made great impact in preserving our heritage and enhancing community bonds and I believe strongly that we will continue to empower young people within Lagos Island,” she said.

In her remarks, Meranda expressed appreciation to the leadership of the organisation.

She restated her commitment to the service of humanity, even as she urged the leadership of the organisation to continue to demonstrate the same core values that had helped the organisation in the last ten years.

“I extend my sincere appreciation to Hon. Chief Mudirakat Subuola Ajibona and the entire LICGI family for this meaningful recognition.

“Your commitment to preserving our heritage, strengthening community bonds, and empowering young people especially within Lagos Island continues to inspire me,” she said.

Also Radisson Blue in Ikeja, which was the venue of the second event, became lively as the Lagos State Chapter of the UNILAG Alumni Association also honoured Meranda with an ambassadorial award.

According to her, the award from UNILAG alumni came as another call to service. She described the new award as an inspiration.

“As an alumnus of our great institution, this honour carries special significance. UNILAG shaped my values, nurtured my dedication to public service, and prepared me for the responsibilities I shoulder today.

“To be recognised by my own Alma Mater is both humbling and deeply motivating.

“My heartfelt appreciation goes to the Chairman, leadership, and members of the UNILAG Alumni Association for finding me worthy of this remarkable award, and the Vice Chancellor of UNILAG for her support and kind words.

“These recognitions remind me of our shared duty to uplift our communities, champion quality education, and remain steadfast in service to Lagos State,” Meranda stated.

The event climaxed with a photo session, with light music playing in the background even as the deputy speaker had had a great time interacting with the UNILAG team.
