West African Clinical Physiologists seek legislation of its college in Nigeria

From Obinna Odogwu, Awka

The West African College of Clinical Physiology Sciences (WACCPS) has initiated moves for the legal recognition of its college to smoothen its operation in Nigeria.

The Provost of WACCPS, Prof. Chukwuemeka Aloamaka, disclosed this in Awka, Anambra State capital, during the maiden meeting of the group.

“We have applied; we have submitted a bill. The bill has to go to the committees, pass through first reading, second reading and so on. But we have already made the submission. We are waiting but necessary lobbying must take place. But, for now, we have a professional body; registered,” Aloamaka said.

WACCPS is a specialised professional training institution dedicated to promoting excellence in clinical physiology practice, education and research in West Africa.

As a leading professional institution in the region, the organisation strives to maintain the highest standards of clinical physiology practice, foster collaboration and innovation and improve healthcare outcomes for the people of West Africa.

It said its registrants comprise provisional clinical physiologists, clinical physiologists, healthcare professionals and researchers, who learn and share a commitment to advancing the field of clinical physiology and improving patient care.

Professional Programme Advisor of the college, Ugochukwu Okeke, said that WACCPS currently has approved centres in different parts of the country.

Okeke, who is also the National President of the Professional Association of Practising Clinical Physiologists in Nigeria (PAPCPN), listed the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo and Meridian Hospital, Port Harcourt, among others as some of its partners.

“And so many other centres are writing to us, letting us know that they have the advanced medical equipment needed for this professional training because we are working to meet up with the international standard for clinical physiology science and practice,” he added.
