Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged residents to make dialogue, tolerance and peaceful coexistence the first response to disagreements, saying the nation’s capital was founded on the principles of unity and diversity.
Wike made the call in his Eid-el-Maulud message to Muslim faithful in the FCT and across Nigeria, urging residents to draw practical lessons from the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
The minister said the celebration should go beyond religious observance to encourage Nigerians to reflect on values capable of strengthening peaceful coexistence, including patience, compassion, sacrifice, tolerance and fellowship.
According to him, the character and teachings of the Prophet provide enduring lessons for managing differences and building harmonious communities.
“The FCT was built on the foundation of unity, diversity, and tolerance for all Nigerians,” Wike stated.
He added: “There is the need for us to embrace the true meaning and virtues of sacrifice, patience, tolerance, and fellowship in our daily interactions.”
Wike therefore called on residents to embrace dialogue as the primary means of resolving disputes, stressing that peaceful engagement was essential to sustaining the character of the Federal Capital Territory as a home for Nigerians from different backgrounds.
The minister also assured residents and visitors that the FCT Administration remained committed to maintaining safety and adequate security during the festive period and beyond.
He urged residents to complement the efforts of security agencies by providing useful information that could help prevent threats and keep communities safe.
Wike further prayed that the lessons of Eid-el-Maulud would translate into greater peace and development across the territory and the country.
“May the lessons of Eid-el-Maulud bring peace to our homes, progress to our communities, and continued prosperity to the Federal Capital Territory and Nigeria,” he said.
The minister wished Muslim faithful and all residents of the FCT a peaceful and happy Eid-el-Maulud celebration.
