We’re up to date in pension benefits, NAOC clarifies

By Adewale Sanyaolu

The Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC) has clarified that the oil firm is up to date in the payment of pension benefits, saying it remains committed to the welfare and well-being of its pensioners and employees which remained Eni’s primary human capital.

Recall that former members of staff of NAOC had on Thursday, May 23, 2024, staged a peaceful protest to the company, demanding their entitlements.

The senior citizens, who claimed they spent their youthful years working for the growth of the company, lamented that their members were daily dying as a result of hardship resulting from abandonment by the company.

Part of the pensioners demand included periodic increase in pension to meet the present economic challenges and increase in minimum wage that is now worthless; reinstatement of Kate retirees’ spouses who are denied medical care; provision of palliatives because of the hike in cost of living which it claimed was a standard industry practice.

Reacting further to the claims of the retirees, the management of NAOC in a statement made available to Sunday Sun yesterday, said: ‘‘We want to clarify that NAOC pays the pension benefits as and when due, and provides adjustment increases in pension payments to its retirees. New adjustment is being considered, following the last one successfully implemented in 2021.

As for the health care services, we state that NAOC provides continuous medical care to the pensioners and their spouses, a key benefit for the well-being of our workforce to ensure necessary health assistance without interruption.

We believe that the information provided will clarify the points expressed in the article on such a fundamental topic for NAOC, its workforce, and the social community,’’ the statement explained.
