We’re committed to welfare of IDPs — FG

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to the welfare of Internally Displaced Persons IDPs across the country.

The government, through the Federal Commissioner of National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Tijani Aliyu Ahmed, stated this during the inauguration of an ICT centre in IDPs camp, Durumi, Abuja.

The 13 computers were provided by the Brand Life Vision Foundation.

According to him, the government would relocate 40 IDP households from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja to Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

In addition, he said NCFRMI would select 10 students across the IDPs camps in the FCT and sponsor their education to university level.

He said: “The commission has profiled 40 households to be relocated to Keffi, in Nasarawa, which is 60 kilometres from Abuja, and has already begun the process of relocation for interested individuals.

“The commission is focusing on building permanent structures in Keffi, including classes, healthcare centres, skill acquisition centres, and a police station, to provide long-term support.

Ahmed noted that the commission would strike a deal with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to provide teachers for continuity, rather than relying on temporary tutors.

Also, Leader of the Foundation, Binta Sidi said humanitarian supports would be given to at least 1000 children across IDPs camps, particularly those who are underprivileged.
