Welfare of Nigerian child responsibility of all –Abbas

From Ndubuisi Orji, Abuja

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has said the welfare of the Nigerian child, including education, is the responsibility of everyone.

Abbas, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa  Krishi, called for better welfare, and protection of the Nigerian child by both the government, parents, guardians, teachers, clerics, and other stakeholders.

The speaker, while noting that proper upbringing of a child is the collective responsibility of the society, and not just the parents, decried the high number of out-of-school children.

He assured that the 10th House was doing everything legislatively possible to ensure that every child is educated in Nigeria, and called on the government at all levels to make the Nigerian children have unfettered access to education.

Abbas commended the state governments that have domesticated and are enforcing the Child Rights Act, while urging others to take the bold step. He noted that the law, if fully implemented by all stakeholders, would have a huge positive impact on the lives of young Nigerians.

Similarly, the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin  Kalu, in a separate statement by his Special Assistant on Press Affairs, Udora Orizu, noted that Nigerian children have great potential, which if harnessed, would be of great advantage to the country and generations to come.

The deputy speaker, while felicitating with the children on the occasion of this year’s Children Day celebration, said the House would continue to strive for a better future for the younger generation.
