Barcelona president Joan Laporta has reiterated the club’s desire to sign Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, urging the Spanish side to accept their offer for the Argentina international.

Laporta said Barcelona remain “very interested” in Alvarez and are prepared to complete the transfer if Atletico agree to the proposal already submitted for the 26-year-old forward.

“We are very interested in the player and we would like our offer to be accepted,” Laporta said, according to Mundo Deportivo.

“We do this with all due respect to Atlético, and if they are in a position to sell the player on the market, we are prepared to buy him in accordance with the offer we made.”

Barcelona’s renewed push comes despite Atletico’s consistent position throughout the transfer window that Alvarez is not available for sale.

The situation has become increasingly tense after Alvarez reportedly requested a move away from Atletico, with Barcelona understood to be his preferred destination.

Atletico supporters have also expressed their frustration with the forward, including whistling him during recent matches, while Alvarez has reportedly been advised to keep his distance from sections of the club’s fan base.

Barcelona are now hoping Atletico will reconsider their position as the transfer window approaches its final days.

For Laporta, the club’s position remains clear: Barcelona want Alvarez and have already placed an offer on the table, but the final decision rests with Atletico.
