The Provost of Wavecrest College of Hospitality, Rosana Forsuelo, has charged the students of the institution to uphold professional and ethical conduct.
He gave the admonition during the college’s 21st Matriculation ceremony held in Lagos on Friday, saying hospitality education and the right training remained germane for future relevance.
Forsuelo, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Provost, Ifeoma Nwabachili, said the hospitality business remained the fastest growing sector in the economy, urging the matriculating students to embrace the life skills opportunity in the profession, while upholding also the ethical standards in service delivery.
He also said hospitality education is the passport to the future and a dynamic profession that forms part of a global tourism business and stands as the fastest-growing sector in the world economy.
“Hospitality education creates wealth, facilitates national development, generates employment, and fosters entrepreneurial opportunities in Nigeria and beyond,” he said.
She felicitated the matriculating students and urged them to be positive change agents who would impact the world meaningfully.
A guest speaker and an alumnus of the institution, Chioma Nwachukwu, in a lecture titled ‘Training and Education in Hospitality: Serving the needs of the Industry’ stressed the importance of training and education as a way of improving the capacity, skills, and workplace competence in the 21st century.
She said: “The Hospitality Industry is posed with a number of challenges, one of which is the shortage of skilled talents, hence training and education have proven to be necessary tools to improve personnel skills and capacity, as well as workplace competency. And this begins with an initial education.”
She advised students to make the best of their stay at Wavecrest and give attention to everyday learning and day-to-day experience in order to get the best in the institution.
