WACOT introduces innovative herbicide to boost crop yield

WACOT Agrochemical and Fertiliser Limited, a subsidiary of Tropical General Investments (TGI) Group, has introduced an advanced herbicide, Dragon Super, to farmers in the southwest region of the country.

The product launch, held recently in Iseyin, Oyo State, attracted over 5,000 farmers and local leaders eager to learn about the revolutionary weed management solution.

Engineered to combat a broad spectrum of annual and perennial grasses and broadleaf weeds, Dragon Super is a non-selective, post-emergence herbicide. Its introduction addresses a significant challenge for Nigerian farmers, offering a multitude of benefits that promise to transform agricultural practices.

Managing Director of WACOT Agrochemical and Fertiliser Limited,  Murari Sharma, emphasised Dragon Super’s technological advancements and economic advantages during the event.

“Dragon Super transcends a mere product; it embodies innovation,” Sharma remarked. “This technology offers ‘half dose, double result,’ a critical factor in addressing global food insecurity, including Nigeria. Dragon Super not only eliminates weeds but also demonstrably increases crop production by a minimum of 25 per cent.”

“We launched Dragon Super last year, strategically targeting regions with strong farming communities and agribusinesses,” Sharma continued. “Farmers who have adopted this product have consistently vouched for its effectiveness. Dragon Super is currently the leading herbicide in various parts of Nigeria. We are now introducing this revolutionary product to the southwest to ensure all farmers nationwide have access to cultivating their farms and doubling their yields unhindered by weeds.”

Director of Human Resources at TGI Agribusiness, Amaka Bifom, further echoed Dragon Super’s significance for farmers. “We formulated Dragon Super specifically to empower farmers with efficient weed control solutions. Weed management is a significant hurdle impacting farmers’ productivity. This product is meticulously designed to address this challenge effectively, allowing farmers to maintain weed-free fields and prioritise maximising crop yields.”

The ceremony also saw WACOT acknowledge Iseyin-based farmers who have successfully utilised Dragon Super, alongside top distributors within the southwest region. One such awardee, Alabi Olufunso, CEO of Fountain of Joy Agrochemical Nigeria Enterprise Farms, expressed appreciation for the recognition and lauded WACOT’s unwavering commitment to providing practical solutions for farmers across the country.

Dragon Super’s inaugural launch in Abuja in 2023 marked a new era in weed control for Nigerian farmers. WACOT has since been diligently introducing this revolutionary product to various regions throughout the country, with the most recent event held in Mubi, Adamawa State, last month.

A key advantage of Dragon Super is its extended period of weed control. The product offers up to 30 days of weed elimination after application. This prolonged efficacy guarantees a sustained weed-free environment, empowering farmers to focus their efforts on nurturing their crops.
