- Says PDP Will No Longer Tolerate Further Intimidation of Fubara
From Okey Sampson, Umuahia
Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the Rivers State political crisis by calling Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike to order. He warned that the PDP will not tolerate any further intimidation or persecution of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Reacting to the latest move by pro-Wike lawmakers and the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) calling for the impeachment of Governor Fubara, Senator Wabara stated that such actions could plunge the state into needless political turmoil. He emphasized that the PDP would not tolerate any further intimidation of the Governor and urged all involved to give peace a chance.
Accusing Wike of stoking the face-off between Governor Fubara and the lawmakers, Senator Wabara stressed that Nigeria cannot afford instability in Rivers State, given its economic importance. He appealed to President Tinubu to prevail on Wike to allow his successor to discharge his constitutional duties without undue influence.
“I want to appeal to Mr President to call his appointee, Nyesom Wike, to order so that his actions in Rivers do not confirm the suspicion that APC has an agenda to turn Nigeria into a one-party state. Wike should allow peace to reign in Rivers State,” Wabara stated.
“Mr President should appreciate the importance of Rivers as a major revenue base of the country, and should the trouble they are stoking erupt, Nigeria will definitely not escape the aftermath.”
The PDP BoT Chairman advised members of the Rivers House of Assembly not to become tools for destabilization, warning that history would judge them harshly. He also reminded those considering conflict to carefully weigh the consequences of forcefully removing a democratically elected Governor or President from office.
Addressing the mass exodus from Abia PDP, Senator Wabara expressed no surprise and urged party members to remain calm. He attributed the exodus to the impunity and disregard for internal democracy and party supremacy during the previous PDP-led administration in the state. However, he assured that party elders were taking steps to prevent further departures.
Wabara acknowledged that some PDP chieftains were leaving for self-protection but urged members to remain resolute and support the ongoing efforts to rebuild and reposition the party for victory in 2027.
