VarsityMentor, dedicated to university student empowerment, has announced a high-impact, three-day Generative AI (GenAI) education summit to be held in Lagos from February 18 to 20, 2026.
Funded by the University of San Diego’s GenAI in CS Education Consortium, the summit aims to bridge the digital divide by modernizing Computer Science (CS) curricula across the continent. The event will convene faculty and innovators from 27 universities across Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, Malawi, and Ethiopia.
The summit moves beyond student mentorship to institutional change. “Our vision is to raise a new generation of African graduates who are not just consumers of technology, but the architects of the global AI revolution,” said Obinna Anya, Founder of VarsityMentor and UX Researcher at Google.

A featured panel of tech founders will be hosted by Valerie Ehimhen, Technical Program Manager at Google Quantum AI and co-founder of the PETGA Initiative.
“The industry is moving at a pace that traditional curricula often struggle to match,” Ehimhen noted. “By bringing founders and faculty into the same room, we ensure the next generation is equipped with the exact skills—specifically in GenAI and systems thinking—that the market demands.” Adekunle Adeyemo, Software Engineer and former global lead of Africans@Google, added that success requires more than just new tools. “Scaling the African tech ecosystem requires a robust foundation of systems-level thinking and reliability,” he emphasised.
According to VarsityMentor Media Consultant Sir Peter Osamgbi, the summit represents a pivot toward “upstream” institutional reform. While previous conferences focused on individual professional readiness, this mandate ensures the very foundations of African CS education are aligned with an AI-driven future.
