Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has said Seyi, son of President Bola Tinubu, is the individual who can turn around the fortunes of Nigerian football administration.
Martins made the remarks on Monday during a conversation with Mikel Obi on “The Obi One Podcast,” while reacting to the ongoing crisis rocking the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which has triggered a string of resignations and reshuffles in recent days.
The former Inter Milan forward said poor football administration has plagued Nigeria since his playing days, and put forward Seyi Tinubu as the best candidate to fix the system.
The 41-year-old described the president’s son as young and in tune with the aspirations of Nigerians, saying he believes he can get the job done.
“I mean, it’s always been like that, you know, so we just need someone that, you know, that can help,” Martins said.
“You know, someone, you know, a young person that understands the game, that understands the system that can help us. And I, and I think Seyi Tinubu can do that too.
“You know, he understands, he’s young, and he understands what Nigerian people want. You know, I think he can change that.”
Seyi Tinubu has not publicly expressed interest in taking up any role within the NFF.
Martins’ comments come against the backdrop of turmoil at the NFF. Last week, Ibrahim Gusau resigned as NFF president, while Muhammad Sanusi also stepped down as the federation’s general secretary.
Their exits were followed by a presidential directive for a “comprehensive reform” of Nigerian football, aimed at addressing the country’s “repeated failures to qualify for major regional, continental and world tournaments
