A lecturer in the Department of Geosciences at Mountain Top University, Ogun State, Dr. David Tuoyo Ede, has appealed for public support to raise N50 million for a life-saving kidney transplant following a diagnosis of stage five chronic kidney disease.
The 48-year-old academic, who is also battling long-standing diabetes mellitus and hypertension, has been undergoing regular haemodialysis since he was admitted as an emergency patient at Redeemer’s Health Village, Redemption City, Ogun State, on March 4, 2026.
According to medical reports made available by the family, Dr. Ede receives outpatient haemodialysis every other day and remains medically unfit to resume his teaching duties. His physicians say a kidney transplant offers the only sustainable treatment for his condition.
The family disclosed that over N6 million has already been spent on dialysis, diagnostic tests, medications and other hospital expenses, while the estimated cost of the transplant, including donor evaluation, surgery and post-operative care, stands at N50 million.
Describing the financial burden as overwhelming, the family appealed to individuals, corporate organisations, faith-based institutions and philanthropists to assist in raising the funds required to save the lecturer’s life.
The appeal also extends to media organisations, urging them to support the campaign through public service announcements and wider coverage to increase public awareness and encourage donations.

“We believe that increased public awareness will improve the chances of securing the support urgently needed for Dr. Ede to undergo the transplant,” the family said.
