Ahead of 2026 valentine celebration, the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has cautioned Nigerians against reckless and unsafe sexual activities that increase their chances of contracting HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
NACA Director-General, Dr. Temitope Ilori, in a statement, suggested that everyone celebrate love responsibly by taking deliberate steps to prevent HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
“While this season is known for expressions of affection and connection, it is equally important to avoid behaviours that increase vulnerability to HIV. Protecting your health and that of your partner remains one of the greatest expressions of love,” she said.
The NACA boss encouraged all Nigerians to use the opportunity to rather know their status, get tested for HIV and encourage their partner to do the same, practice safe sex and use condoms consistently and correctly.

“Additionally, all Nigerians are encouraged to avoid risky behaviours by limiting multiple sexual partners and avoid transactional sex; celebrate responsibly by avoiding excessive alcohol or substance use that may impair judgement; and seek HIV prevention, treatment, and counselling services at any Government health facility closest to them,” she said.
The Director-General of NACA, also urged Nigerians to make informed choices that safeguard their health and future, while contributing to the national goal of ending new HIV infections “Let love be guided by responsibility. Knowing your status and protecting yourself and others is a powerful way to show you care,” she stated.
She said that NACA remains committed to expanding access to quality HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support services across Nigeria.
