The project is nearing completion as the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) tasks Orashi Electricity with generating, transmitting, and distributing electricity statewide. The pact signed at the Governor’s Office saw top officials put pen to paper: Nwabueze Oguchienti (Commissioner for Power) and Basil Okolie (Ministry of Power) signed on behalf of the Imo State government, while Valentine Obunmeyan and Mohammed Sahid signed for Orashi Electricity.

Governor Uzodimma has never hidden his administration for the project, which he has declared as one of the massive achievements of his administration besides the wonderful roads construction.

“This is it,“No more erratic power. No more generators. We’re talking jobs, industries, investments, the whole package, get ready for takeoff”, Uzodimma stated.

“My inspection of a sub-station of the Orashi Electricity Company revealed progress that aligns closely with our projected completion timeframe, as ndi Imo eagerly await the power station to go into operation,” the governor said.

“The level of work accomplished, so far, demonstrates a clear commitment from the contractors and technical teams, whose efforts continue to reflect professionalism and dedication to the state’s energy goals,” he added.

Uzodimma described the project as a major backbone of the state’s economy, adding that it’s one of the state’s most strategic investments. He stated that the project is aimed at improving power supply reliability, an important metric in the urbanisation agenda of the state.

Already, residents of the state are relishng the prospects that the flickering lights could become a thing of the past by year-end. Definitely, it is expected that it will boost the economy of the state, thriving SMEs, digital growth, and Imo’s revival as a tourism hotspot.

Artisans in the state making use of electricity could not hide their feelings, Ejike Ononogbo, a welder, said, “I spent close to N60, 000.00 everyday buying diesel to work because there’s no light in my area. Now, if this project by His Excellency comes to fruition, it will save me cost; I can’t wait to see it come up”.

The project aligns with Uzodimma’s Shared Prosperity Agenda, banking on infrastructure to spark jobs and growth revolution. The stakes are high. As Orashi gears up, Imo residents are bracing for a brighter and more electrifying 2026.
