US: Protests spread amid Trump threats, military crackdown

US citizens shunned threats from President Donald Trump as protests against his immigration policies spread across the country’s cities amid a military crackdown in Los Angeles.

According to reports, the police arrested around 25 people who had refused to leave Los Angeles, where an overnight curfew was mostly effective.

While officers were seen patrolling around government buildings, storekeepers put up windows to protect their businesses against vandals.

Lynn Sturgis, 66, a protester who spoke toAFP said, “I would say for the most part everything is hunky dory right here at Ground Zero.

“Our city is not at all on fire, it’s not burning down, as our terrible leader is trying to tell you.”

Facilities in Los Angeles were guarded by 1,000 of the 4,700 troops dispatched by Trump, as revealed by Scott Sherman, Deputy Commanding General, Army North, who is leading operations.

The Pentagon disclosed that the deployment will cost taxpayers $134 million.
