Fresh tensions have emerged in the Middle East as Iran accused the United States of pursuing a covert military agenda while publicly advocating diplomacy.

Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, alleged that Washington is preparing for a ground invasion despite ongoing talks aimed at ending the conflict. He said, “The enemy publicly sends messages of negotiation and dialogue while secretly planning a ground attack.”

Ghalibaf struck a defiant tone, warning that Iranian forces are ready to confront any incursion. “Our men are waiting for the arrival of the American soldiers on the ground to set them on fire and punish their regional allies once and for all,” he said.

The remarks come one month after the war began on February 28, when joint strikes by the United States and Israel targeted Iran, killing its supreme leader and triggering a wider regional conflict.

Since then, hostilities have spread across key parts of the Middle East, with strategic assets increasingly under threat. One of the most critical flashpoints remains the Strait of Hormuz, where shipping activity has been severely disrupted. The route typically handles about 20 per cent of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas flows.

Ghalibaf urged national unity, describing the situation as a defining moment for Iran. “We are in a major global war at its most critical stage,” he said, adding that the country remains resolute.

“We are certain that we can punish the United States, make it regret attacking Iran, and firmly secure our legitimate rights,” he declared.

His comments underscore the widening gulf between diplomatic signals and military posturing, raising fresh concerns about the risk of further escalation in an already volatile region.
