US deportation: FG ready to receive Nigerians – NiDCOM

Nigerian immigrants in the US

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has stated that the federal government is ready to welcome about 5,144 Nigerians who may be deported by the US government.

Reports reveal that no less than 5,144 Nigerians staying illegally in the US may be affected by President Donald Trump’s ongoing crackdown on undocumented immigrants.

Speaking on receiving Nigerians, Chairman/CEO NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa disclosed that an inter-agency committee has been set up.

“The Federal Government has set up an inter-agency committee, comprising the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NiDCOM, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and the Office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, should there be mass deportation of Nigerians from the US”, she stated.

Trump made mass deportations of undocumented immigrants a central campaign promise and has carried out 21 executive actions to overhaul the US immigration system.

The president’s border czar, Tom Homan is tasked with ensuring a successful operation that has led to mass arrests.
