Despite the curfew imposed by the Plateau State Government, eight people have been killed in three separate incidents in Bokkos, Mangu and Barkin Ladi local government areas of Plateau State between Monday and Tuesday.
The curfew was imposed following persistent attacks in the three local government areas.
In the first incident, gunmen ambushed three Mwaghavul vigilantes in Mangu Local Government Area, while in the second, four artisanal miners died in a sand pit collapse in Bokkos Local Council.
Another person was killed when gunmen attacked Rakwok, Bet, Razat, Gassa and Rakung communities in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area on Monday night.
In a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Tubwot Joël Sunday, for the President of the movement, Kyesmang Jonathan Yusuf, the MYM said the three youths were ambushed at Kyikyau-Gyambwas boundary in Mangu Halle District of Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State.
According to the association, the incident occurred at about 7:39 p.m. on Tuesday, when the victims were reportedly ambushed by suspected armed Fulani attackers.
The three men were said to be among those keeping watch over their community following the curfew imposed by the state government.
MYM gave the names of the victims as Samson Dachet, 45 years, Gambo Fwangyil, 50 years, and Zughumnan Bamaiyi, aged 35 years.
The statement said, “The Mwaghavul Youth Movement is deeply disturbed that this deadly attack occurred during the period of the newly imposed 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew, a measure introduced by the Plateau State Government with the stated objective of protecting lives and enabling security agencies to stabilise affected communities.”
The Mwaghavul Youth Movement expressed sadness that the incident occurred while law-abiding citizens are confined to their homes from 6:00 p.m., armed Fulani criminals continued to move, attack and kill with impunity during the same period.
“The Movement is seriously concerned that, in its present implementation, the curfew may unintentionally place peace-loving and law-abiding Mwaghavul communities and all other affected Plateau communities at a significant disadvantage.”
“Communities that have historically relied on organised vigilance to protect their homes, farms and families are now being restricted from movement, while the perpetrators of violence appear not to be deterred by the restriction.”

The Mwaghavul Youth Movement therefore called on the state government and the security agencies to immediately review the current curfew arrangement in Mangu, particularly its implications for vulnerable communities that remain exposed to armed attacks after dusk.
In the second incident, four illegal miners died following the collapse of a sand excavation pit at Tangur community in Bokkos Local Government Area.
The incident was said to have occurred at about 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday.
An eyewitness said the victims were engaged in sand excavation along a river line in the community when the pit collapsed on them.
Also, the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) has condemned the coordinated attacks carried out by suspected Fulani terrorists on Rakwok, Bet, Razat, Gassa and Rakung communities in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area on the night of Monday, 21 September 2026.
BYM President Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri expressed dismay that the attacks were particularly carried out on the very night the Plateau State Government imposed a 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew on Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu, with security agencies directed to enforce the restriction.
BYM identified the victim as Henry Elisha, 22, a young husband and father of two from Rakwok.
Mwantiri said, “We are deeply concerned that while law-abiding citizens obeyed the curfew and stayed indoors, armed attackers were able to move between communities, launch coordinated assaults.”
“They also ambushed commuters along the Barkin Ladi-Bokkos and Barkin Ladi-Gashish roads in broad daylight on Tuesday, 22 September 2026.”
“Even more disturbing is the attack on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, during Henry Elisha’s burial at Rakwok, when mourners, including the BYM National President, were trapped as the attackers engaged security personnel in a gun battle from different directions of their enclaves.”
BYM called on security agencies to intensify patrols to enforce the curfew imposed by the state government.
