A Lagos-based businessman, Benson Enyinnah Royal and his wife, Nneka Glory, have instituted a N 200 million suit against the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over alleged unlawful detention.

Others named as co-respondents in the suit filed at the Federal High Court Lagos, through a Constitutional Lagos-based lawyer, Chief Benson Ndakara, are Commissioner of Police Intelligence Bureau, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, and an Investigating Police Officer, named Abiodun.

Among the reliefs being sought from the court include a declaration that the arrest and detention of Mr Benson Enyinnah Royal, since June 10 this year, without any charge was unlawful, unconstitutional null and void.

Praying the court to compel the IGP to release him from prison, the applicants said since Benson was arrested, no reason has been adduced before the court for his detention.
