Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Bond Ugochukwu Anyaehie, has said his administration is committed to improving students’ welfare and ensuring more conducive living conditions in the university hostels.

He gave the assurance when he received the Students’ Hall Governors in his office, at the Awka campus, yesterday.

Anyaehie stated that the management had taken note of the challenges confronting hostel residents and would address them promptly.

He immediately directed the Director of Works, Joseph Okoye, to resolve the identified issues within one week.

As part of the intervention, the vice-chancellor approved the release of 500 litres of diesel weekly to sustain the operation of the hostel power plant, describing reliable electricity as critical to students’ comfort and productivity.

Anyaehie further assured the governors of his continued support while urging them to exhibit maturity, responsibility and constructive engagement in all their interactions with the university management.

Earlier in his speech on behalf of the hall governors, the SUG President, Samuel Ochuba, outlined their major challenges in the hostel to include epileptic power supply, non-functional Wi-Fi services, inadequate bed spaces and bedding, as well as unconducive toilet facilities, especially in the male hostels.

The vice chancellor noted that one of the core principles of his new administration in office is centred on students-first philosophy, where the students and their welfare is given priority attention as the main stakeholder in university management and administration
