A lecturer in the department of Pharmacognosy and Herbal Medicine at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, Bamimore Victoria Oluwatope, has been honoured with an award at the International Symposium on Streptococcus Agalactiae Disease (ISSAD 2026).
The conference, according to the Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr Isaac Oluyi, hosted over 200 researchers and experts from 37 countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Brazil, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Pakistan and South Africa.
Of all the participants, six outstanding researchers were recognised, with Oluwatope emerging as one of the best investigators.
She was recognised for her efforts in a research on “Uvaria chamae compounds as natural inhibitors of GBS virulence.”
The research, Oluyi said, contributes to the ongoing global efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance and supports the discovery of novel therapeutic agents.
Commenting on the honour she said: “I am deeply honoured to have been one of the recipients of the Young ISSAD Award.”
She described the award as a prestigious recognition presented to exceptional early career researchers.
She added that “this award acknowledges the scientific quality, innovation and global relevance of my research. Being selected among a small group of awardees from across the world highlights the impact and promise of my work in advancing infectious disease research and public health.”

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe has been appointed as a member of the National Committee for the Advancement of Occupational Therapy, Audiology and Speech Therapy Education (NCAOTASE).
The committee, constituted to strengthen and advance the development of allied health education in Nigeria, brings together key stakeholders from academia, government agencies and health sector.
The committee is chaired by Dr. Victoria Amu and includes representatives from the National Universities Commission (NUC), TETFund and leading medical institutions across the country.
Mr. Oluyi who revealed the appointment in a statement, said Prof Adejuyigbe welcomed the appointment.
Oluyi quoted the Vice Chancellor as saying that “this appointment is a testament to the leading role of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, in medical science and health sciences education.
“As the premier specialised medical science university in Nigeria, we have demonstrated over the years that we have what it takes to strengthen and advance not just the mainstream medical education, but also develop allied health education in Nigeria.”
Other members of the committee include Mr. Gabriel Aborele (NUC), Dr. Hadiza Ismail (TETFund), Dr. David Atuwo (SSA), Dr. Isa Nurudeen (MD, National Orthopaedic Hospital, Kano), Dr. Paul Agboola (MD, Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta), Prof. John Emaimo (VC, FUAHSE, Enugu), Prof. Julius Ademokoya (University of Ibadan), Dr. Femi Unufegan (Provost, Michael Imoudu College of Education, Edo State) and Mr. Ayeni Oluwasegun (Occupational Therapist, UNIMED, Ondo), with TETFund serving as the secretariat.
Oluyi said Prof Adejuyigbe’s inclusion in the committee was a recognition of her expertise and leadership in medical education and is expected to further strengthen UNIMED’s contribution to the development of specialised healthcare training in Nigeria.
The committee is tasked with developing strategies and frameworks to enhance the training, accreditation and professional standards of occupational therapy, audiology and speech therapy education nationwide.
