Unilesa to begin apiculture, feed mill, palm oil processing

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilesa, Osun State, Prof Taiwo Asaolu, has disclosed that the feed mill and palm oil processing section of the university’s farm will begin work very soon.

He disclosed this at the university campus in Ilesa during the handing over of a model integrated teaching and research farm to the university and the commissioning of the faculty of law building, yesterday.

Asaolu noted that the people farm is an integrated farm that will feature all arms of agriculture to allow the students to have full knowledge of what they are taught in the classes.

According to the VC, the farm currently has a cow ranch, sheep and rams ranch, cat-fish ponds (artificial, earthen, and natural), a cane rat farm, and a snail farm, which are under construction, adding that the poultry section, the apiculture section, the feed mill, and palm oil processing section will be up and running soon.

Similarly, Prof Asaolu disclosed that the new faculty of law building has the office of Deen fully furnished; a conference room, two lecture rooms, a seminar room staff offices, etc, adding that the faculty also has a Law Auditorium and four Annex buildings that could accommodate the Moot Court, the Judge Chamber, the Law Clinic, the Students’ Common Room, the Lawyers’ changing room, Law Librarian Office, etc.

He said, “One special and unique feature about the structure, is the Law Library, which we have equipped with Law books, Journals, and Law Reports and an e-library section with 75 workstations, subscribed with relevant e-resources. The buildings are also friendly to the physically challenged persons, with provisions for ramps where necessary,” Asaolu added.

He commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for his support to renovate the abandoned building being commissioned and other support to the university since its inception.

In his address, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Hon Gbenga Onigbogi, called for the support of individuals, corporate bodies, and organizations to partner with the government to make the university get adequate infrastructure.

He advised the university management to strive and ensure that the university is known for research breakthroughs; academic staff attracting grants; and staff and students winning prizes and awards to encourage the government to do more.
